Eyes Wide Open
A 21-Day New Year’s Christian Devotional
Walking Into 2026 Awake and Aware
Day 1: Stepping Into 2026 With Open Eyes
Scripture:
-
Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Ephesians 5:14
Reflection:
As we step into 2026, God is not only inviting us forward, He is inviting us to wake up...Awake to His presence, awake to His Spirit, and awake to the unseen realities, that the Word makes clear, are at work all around us. The Bible reminds us that life is not shaped only by what we can see and touch, but by spiritual truths that require faith, discernment, humility, and awareness.
Spiritual sleep does not always look like rebellion. It can look like keeping up with day to day life, distraction, routine or faith that has lost its expectancy. This devotional is an invitation to begin the year intentionally, asking God to open or sharpen our spiritual vision and keep us alert and aware of His presence and plan, as we walk through 2026 together, in the Spirit.
Prayer:
Lord, Thank you for the grace, guidance and any measures of growth I've achieved this year. As we step into the new year, please, help me walk with you with my eyes wide open. Let this day be the first step towards building a deeper relationship with You and walking in the purpose You have for me.
In Jesus' name, I pray,
Amen.
Practical Practice:
The Holy Spirit is our ever present help. Acknowledge Him daily. Create a habit of Communion with God. We should not be focused on or consumed by the distractions and responsibilities of this world, that pulls us in the opposite direction.
Day 2: Awake, Sleeper!
Scripture:
-
Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Ephesians 5:14
-
For you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. Romans 13:11
Reflection:
God’s call to wake up is not spoken in anger, but in love and invitation. Spiritual sleep dulls our awareness of His voice, His movement, and His gentle nudges toward obedience. Awakening begins with honest recognition. This is when we are seeing where we have grown passive, distracted, or complacent. When we acknowledge our need for His light, He meets us with grace and restores clarity, purpose, and direction. Every revelation we receive is an opportunity to acknowledge and repent. Awareness is a gift. The intention comes from our heart. Every step we take towards Him, He moves towards us. With every surrender, we experience more peace, clarity, vision and presence.
Prayer:
Lord, awaken every place in me that has grown spiritually asleep, tired, or passive. Shine Your light into areas I have ignored or avoided, and renew my desire to walk closely with You. Stir my heart with fresh hunger for Your presence and truth.
In Jesus' name, I pray,
Amen.
Practical Practice:
Ask God where you may have grown spiritually comfortable instead of spiritually alert. Sit quietly and listen without defensiveness, trusting His kindness to reveal truth. Write down what He shows you and one small step of obedience you can take this week.
Day 3 : Eyes to See Beyond the Natural
Scripture:
-
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. -2 Corinthians 4:18
-
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. -Colossians 3:2
Reflection:
What is visible often feels more urgent than what is eternal (of God), pulling our attention toward stress, deadlines, and temporary possibilities and outcomes. Spiritual vision invites us to live anchored in a Kingdom mindset rather than momentary pressures. When we learn to see beyond the natural, our decisions, priorities, and responses begin to align with God's will and perspective, bringing peace and steadiness to our lives.
Prayer:
Lord, help me focus on what lasts, not just what feels pressing. Train my heart to value eternal fruit over temporary success. Give me eyes to see Your purposes at work even when circumstances feel overwhelming.
In Jesus' name, I pray,
Amen.
Practice:
Write down one eternal priority for this year. Write something that impacts your faith, character, or love for others. Ask God how you can intentionally nurture that priority in your daily life. Revisit it regularly as a reminder of what truly matters and add to it , if you're led.
Day 4 – Walking by Faith, Not by Sight
Scripture:
- For we live by faith, not by sight. -2 Corinthians 5:7
- Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. -Hebrews 11:1
Reflection:
Faith anchors us when clarity is lacking and circumstances feel uncertain. God, most often, calls us to move forward before understanding the full picture, trusting His character rather than our perception. When we do this, we are walking by faith.
Walking by faith sharpens our spiritual sight because it trains our hearts to rely on God’s promises instead of visible outcomes. When we choose trust over fear, our emotions lose power and our spiritual vision becomes clearer, even if our natural vision does not. Faith reminds us that God is already at work, doing far beyond what we can see. Trust Him.
Prayer:
Lord,
Thank you for your love and grace. Today and every day forward, I chose to trust you. Please, strengthen my faith when I'm overwhelmed or distressed and can't see clearly. Help me trust Your ways above my understanding. Remind me of your promises when the weight feels too heavy and tries to takes hold of my mind. Help me to regularly make decisions that grow my mustard seed of faith every day.
In Jesus' name, I pray,
Amen.
Practice:
Identify one area of your life where you will intentionally trust God more deeply today.
Day 5 – Guarding Spiritual Vision
Scripture Reading:
-
The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! - Matthew 6:22–23 (NIV)
- I will not look with approval on anything that is vile. I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it. - Psalm 101:3 (NIV)
Reflection:
What we allow our eyes to see slowly shapes our inner world, influencing our thoughts, attitudes, and spiritual sensitivity. Unguarded vision can dim discernment, while intentional focus invites light and clarity. Guarding spiritual vision is not about restriction, but about protecting intimacy with God and alignment with His truth. This is a choice. But the choice is only available or visible when are aware. When we are mindful of what we consume, and how often we consume these things, we create opportunities for personal and spiritual growth. With honest self reflection and Holy Spirit led discernment, we can weight that reflection against your time, honor and obedience in relationship with God. When we surrender the people, places and things that are a distraction, resistant or against His will and purpose, or doesn't reflect the divine identity he has called us to, we create space for God’s light to shine unhindered. Clear vision begins with disciplined attention.
Prayer:
Father, purify my focus and align my desires with You and Your will for my life. Remind and help me to guard what enters my heart and mind with the Breastplate of Righteousness. Don't let me be passive about how I walk out every day with you. Fill me with Your truth and empower me with faith, strength and strategies to stand firm in faith so that I can freely turn away from what my eyes may lust for or wants to distract me. Thank you for the love, grace and guidance of Your Holy Spirit.
In Jesus' name, I pray,
Amen.
Practice:
Remove one distraction today that dulls your spiritual sensitivity or draws your attention away from God.
Day 6: The Battle You Cannot See
Scripture:
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. -Ephesians 6:12
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. -2 Corinthians 10:3-4
Reflection:
Spiritual battles often occur beneath the surface, unseen but deeply influential. Awareness of spiritual warfare prepares us to stand firm without living in fear or confusion. When we recognize the true nature of the battle, we stop fighting people and circumstances and instead rely on God’s strength. Victory comes not through human effort, but through spiritual weapons empowered by God. Standing firm begins with Faith, which means having total trust and dependence on Him.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to stand in Your strength and not my own. Help me remain alert and anchored in Your truth. As I share my testimony and encourage others with your Word, let it be, an encouragement and reminder to myself of Your faithful love.
In Jesus' name, I pray,
Amen.
Practical Practice:
Pray intentionally through the full armor of God, asking the Holy Spirit to equip and strengthen you today.
Day 7: Staying Alert in Prayer
Scripture:
Matthew 26:41
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Colossians 4:2
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”
Reflection:
Prayer keeps us spiritually awake and aligned with God’s heart and flow, especially in moments of weakness or pressure. When prayer becomes our habit, it sharpens our awareness and strengthens our resistance against temptation. Staying alert in prayer helps us discern what is happening beneath the surface rather than reacting in the flesh. God invites us to a posture of watchfulness, not anxiety, dependence, or self-effort. A prayerful life keeps our spirit renewed, engaged, receptive and responsive.
Prayer:
Lord, make prayer my habit, not my last resort. Remind me to quickly bring my cares to you. Teach me to remain alert and dependent on You, not allowing myself to become passive, distracted or overwhelmed by life's routine and trials, knowing full well of your promises to me. Keep me alert and receptive to your Word and Presence.
In Jesus' name, I pray,
Amen.
Practice:
Set a daily, intentional prayer time and protect it today.
