Even Here, in Sickness

Even Here…

Even Here, in Sickness

During treatment, pain, recovery, or uncertainty about your health

I’m glad you’re here.

Take your time. You don’t have to do anything with this moment yet.

You may be here because of your body, but before we talk about any of that, let’s make a little room for your heart.

Whatever is overwhelming you, you can bring it here. God is with you, even here, and He has the final say.

Maybe you’re in treatment. Maybe you’re waiting for test results, recovering from a procedure, living with pain, adjusting to a diagnosis, or trying to understand what your body needs now.

Maybe you’re simply tired of thinking about it.

You don’t have to be brave for the next few minutes. You don’t have to explain everything or make yourself feel positive.

Step in, just as you are.

Let’s spend a quiet moment with God right here.

Word Flow Breathing Prayer

Take these breaths gently. The hold is always optional.

Breath 1
Inhale

“Lord, You are here with me.”

Hold: 4 seconds

Exhale

“I don’t have to carry this moment alone.”

Breath 2
Inhale

“You know what my body needs.”

Hold: 4 seconds

Exhale

“Help me receive the care I need.”

Breath 3
Inhale

“Your presence goes with me.”

Hold: 4 seconds

Exhale

“I place this day in Your hands.”

Let’s Start With God’s Word

Psalm 46:1

God is described as our refuge and strength, present and available in trouble.

Isaiah 43:2

God’s people are reminded that overwhelming circumstances do not mean they are walking through them without Him.

A Little Encouragement

Can we acknowledge something?

Being sick can become its own world.

Appointments. Medications. Symptoms. Phone calls. Insurance. Test results. Treatment decisions. Changes in what your body can do. Changes in what you can plan. And sometimes the exhaustion of having to explain what’s happening to everybody else when you’re still trying to understand it yourself.

Even when the people around you care, they may not fully understand what it feels like to live inside your body right now.

And sometimes there’s pressure to be strong.

To stay positive.

To find the lesson.

To tell everybody you’re trusting God when what you really want to say is, I’m tired.

You’re allowed to tell God that too.

Faith doesn’t require you to pretend that sickness doesn’t hurt, frighten you, frustrate you, or wear you down.

Receiving medical care doesn’t compete with trusting God.

You can pray. You can ask God for healing. You can ask questions. You can get another medical opinion when you need one. You can take your medication. You can accept help. You can rest.

You can do all of that while remaining with Him.

Maybe you don’t know what happens next.

Then we don’t have to live there yet.

What does today need?

Maybe today needs an appointment.

Maybe it needs a question written down for your doctor.

Maybe it needs food, medication, sleep, help with the kids, somebody to drive you somewhere, or permission to stop trying to accomplish what your body simply cannot carry today.

And maybe today just needs this:

A few quiet minutes where you’re not a diagnosis, a patient, a caregiver’s responsibility, or the person everybody is worried about.

You’re simply you.

And God is still with you.

Even here.

RENEWED Reflection

You don’t have to answer everything. Sit with whichever question meets you today.

HEAR

What do Psalm 46:1 and Isaiah 43:2 remind me about God’s presence in this season?

HOLD

What am I carrying about my health that I need to bring honestly before God — fear, anger, uncertainty, disappointment, exhaustion, or something else?

DO

What does caring for myself faithfully look like today? Is there a question I need to ask, help I need to accept, care I need to seek, or something my body needs me to stop pushing through?

Guided Pause • Breathe • Return

Pause

Notice what feels most present right now. Maybe it’s pain, fatigue, fear, frustration, uncertainty, or simply being tired of dealing with all of it.

You don’t have to fix the feeling. Just acknowledge it before God.

Breathe

Take a few comfortable breaths.

If focusing on your breathing isn’t comfortable today, simply notice what is supporting your body — the chair beneath you, the bed beneath you, the floor beneath your feet.

Nothing has to be accomplished in this moment.

Return

Come back to the truth of Psalm 46:1.

God is still your refuge and strength.

You don’t have to know the whole medical journey to receive His presence in this part of it.

Before You Go, Let’s Pray

Father, You know what is happening in my body, and You know how this season has affected more than just my physical health.

You know the questions I have, the things I’m afraid of, the things I’m tired of, and the answers I’m still waiting for.

I bring You my desire for healing. I bring You my pain, my uncertainty, my frustration, and the parts of this journey I don’t know how to carry.

Give wisdom to the people caring for me. Help me ask the questions I need to ask and recognize when I need additional help or support.

Teach me to care for my body without shame for its limits.

Help me receive rest when I need rest, assistance when I need assistance, and courage for the things I do need to face.

And when my mind runs ahead into everything that might happen, bring me back to today.

Meet me in the appointment.

Meet me while I wait.

Meet me in treatment.

Meet me on the difficult days and the better ones.

However long this season lasts, help me remember that I am still Yours and I am not walking through it without You.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
